Oakley James Dunham grew up in the city of Los Angeles, California living the life he loved on the beach. He did well academically in high school and was popular with most of his peers. Weekends were spent out in the sun from dawn until dusk, taking in the surf and the sun until he couldn't take it any longer. This time was spent with his best friend Hollie whom from day one, he was incapable of separating himself from. Oakley went everywhere with Hollie, to the beach, shopping, out to eat. She'd quickly become his best friend, whom Oakley thought he could tell everything to until one day Oakley discovered something. It was a warm day as always on the beaches of California, and Oakley was out doing his daily routine. Jogging, surfing, and enjoying the sun. He'd had a wicked wipe out, but instead of falling off his board, Oakley floated--no hovered in the air--as he watched his board slip away with the water. Startled, Oakley immediately fell into the water and, after reuniting with his board quickly swam to shore. This wasn't the only change, however. It was as if the floating was a catalyst for both of his abilities, for once on the sandy beach again Oakley could see clearer, farther out, than he could before. Scared, Okaley retired home early, and never spoke of his odd occurrence again. Not even to Hollie, nor his parents whom by then had divorced. He had, however, practiced this ability slowly, and secretly, until he'd mastered his ability of flying well. Hospitals were built and things in the world seemed to be growing quite hectic, and Oakley wanted none of this. In his personal life, Oakley and Hollie (still unaware of his mutation), were planning to move to New York City, and his parents had both found somebody else romantically. Aware of the troubles brewing in the city, the two packed up and moved anyway, buying an apartment in the village where the heart of the artist community was said to be-- just what Hollie needed to find her "inner poet" as she claimed was the reason of their departure in the first place. Oakley fond himself a job at another gym, just like he'd been doing in California, and with the secret of his ability under his belt, things seemed to be just fine.
